A Fresh Start

It’s January 2025 – what a time to be alive. Fires ravaged Los Angeles, Trump was just inaugurated for a second term, global warming is definitely a thing, the country contributed to a genocide in Palestine….I mean, what’s not to love?

In case you couldn’t tell, that was sarcasm.

This new year has gotten off to a very rough start. Leading up to NYE I kept thinking about what I wanted this year to be like, or rather, what I wanted to be like in this new year. And the thought that kept coming into my head was “Be intentional“. Whether it be with career moves, my personal relationship, friendships, free time or anything in between, I want to be conscious of how I move through my days. So I made a plan:

Step 1: Get rid of social media.

Step 2: Stare into the dark abyss.

Step 3: I’m still figuring that out.

It’s only been one, maybe two, days without Instagram or Facebook, but I’ve already caught myself reaching for my phone in down time to mindlessly check feeds. Ew. I don’t like that! I don’t like that I’ve conditioned myself to constantly scroll through nonsense. And even though there’s some great things out there – friend/family updates, event info, puppy videos – most of the stuff has been kind of awful and mind-numbing.

So here’s to making conscious, intentional moves this year.
